Nepal Speaker Orders Removal of Unparliamentary Statements From Records

Kathmandu— Nepal’s Speaker of the House, Dol Prasad Aryal, has instructed parliamentary staff to delete statements made by members of parliament during previous sessions that he considered unparliamentary. The directive specifically targeted remarks from Rastriya Swatantra Party MP Indira Rana Magar and CPN (UML) MP Ram Bahadur Thapa, removing them from official records. Aryal cautioned MPs against drawing comparisons between the governance practices of neighboring countries and Nepal’s own systems, warning against misinterpretation.

Statements Deemed Inappropriate

Speaker Aryal took action after identifying statements made by MP Rana Magar and MP Thapa as problematic. He directed the Federal Parliament Secretariat to remove these specific comments from the official record of parliamentary proceedings. The Speaker emphasized that linking Nepal’s governance to that of other nations with the intent of misrepresentation would not be tolerated.

Bills Sent to Committee

During today's session, the House of Representatives approved proposals to send four bills to their respective committees for detailed clause-by-clause discussion. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle presented a proposal on behalf of Prime Minister Balendra Shah regarding the 'Remuneration, Conditions of Service and Benefits of Office-bearers of Constitutional Bodies (First Amendment) Bill, 2083'.

Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal also put forward the ‘Passport (First Amendment) Bill, 2083’, while Sita Badi, Minister for Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities and Social Security, presented the 'Human Trafficking and Transportation (Control) (First Amendment) Bill, 2083'. Finally, Gauri Kumari, Minister for Industry, submitted the ‘Mines and Minerals Bill, 2083’ for committee review. All proposals received unanimous approval from the Lower House.

Upcoming Session

Following the day's proceedings, it was announced that the next meeting of the House of Representatives is scheduled to convene at 1:00 pm tomorrow. The agenda for this upcoming session has not yet been disclosed.

The removal of the MPs’ statements underscores Speaker Aryal’s commitment to maintaining parliamentary decorum and preventing potentially misleading comparisons between Nepal's governance and that of other nations.
