Kathmandu— Heavy flooding on the Bhotekoshi River, originating from Rasuwa district, has caused significant damage in Nuwakot district of Nepal, sweeping away approximately 60 homes surrounding Trishuli Bazaar and impacting the Devighat area. Authorities report no immediate human casualties as residents evacuated to safer locations after receiving early warnings about the rising water levels. The flooding also damaged infrastructure including bridges and hydropower projects.

Extent Of Damage

The Bhotekoshi River’s surge destroyed around 60 houses in the vicinity of Trishuli Bazaar. In addition to residential properties, two motorable bridges spanning the Trishuli River were washed away by the powerful currents.

The floodwaters also reached Devighat, causing damage there as well.

Infrastructure Impact

The flooding has disrupted power generation in the region, damaging both the Trishuli and Devighat hydropower projects. A 25-megawatt solar power plant also sustained losses, with three blocks and a sub-station being swept away by the floodwaters.

Local authorities are continuing to assess the full extent of the damage and provide support to those affected by the flooding.
