Kathmandu— A series of flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall swept through several districts in Nepal on Wednesday, resulting in the confirmed deaths of at least 157 people as of Thursday morning. The hardest-hit areas include Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Chitwan, Tanahu and Nawalparasi, where rescue teams are continuing to search for missing individuals and provide aid to survivors. Authorities report a disproportionate number of unidentified bodies among the fatalities, complicating identification efforts.

Casualty Breakdown

The Nepal Police have released a detailed breakdown of the confirmed deaths, reporting 27 women, 37 men, six girls, five boys and 20 unidentified individuals lost their lives in the disaster. Bodies were recovered across multiple districts: Rasuwa (one male), Nuwakot (five women, six men), Dhading (11 women, 5 men, two unidentified), Gorkha (one woman, four men, ten unidentified, one boy), and Chitwan (10 women, 10 men, two boys, three girls, eight unidentified).

Ongoing Rescue Operations

In addition to the confirmed fatalities, Nepal Police personnel are among those missing following the floods. Ten police officers went missing from Timure, three from Rasuwagadhi, five from Mailung, and one each from Betrabati and Haku. As of Thursday, 63 flood survivors have been airlifted to Kathmandu and are receiving medical treatment at various health facilities.
