Kathmandu— Chinese Premier Li Qiang conducted an inspection tour of Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces from Monday to Wednesday, stressing the need for comprehensive measures to stabilize grain production and ensure a successful autumn harvest. As a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Li visited farms, agricultural technology centers, water conservancy projects, and cooperatives, emphasizing technological innovation, disaster preparedness, and integration of smallholder farmers into modern practices.

Focus on Crop Yields and Supplies

During a visit to a farm in Heilongjiang province, Premier Li inspected the growth of key crops including soybeans, corn, and rice. Recognizing that these crops are currently at a critical stage for yield formation, he directed officials to strengthen field management practices. He also emphasized the importance of ensuring adequate supplies and maintaining stable prices for essential agricultural production materials.

Technological Advancement in Agriculture

Li highlighted the crucial role of science and technology in boosting grain yields during visits to an agricultural science and technology park and a rice research institute. He specifically called for accelerating the application of artificial intelligence technologies and promoting the development of smart agriculture practices, aiming to modernize farming techniques.

Infrastructure and Disaster Resilience

Recognizing the potential impact of natural disasters on harvests, Li inspected the progress of a major water conservancy project. He urged increased efforts to enhance agricultural disaster prevention and mitigation capabilities, ensuring stable yields even in the face of droughts or floods. This focus underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding food security.

Modernizing Agricultural Practices

At an agricultural cooperative in Jilin province, Li advocated for improvements to agricultural services, emphasizing convenience and efficiency. He also stressed the importance of integrating smallholder farmers with modern agricultural practices, fostering a more streamlined and productive farming system. Furthermore, he encouraged the deep processing of agricultural products to extend industrial chains, create jobs, and enhance value.

The premier’s tour signals continued high-level attention to food security and sustainable agricultural development in China as officials prepare for the autumn harvest.
