The appointments were made following a decision by the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, China’s top legislature, and see personnel changes for diplomatic missions in Sri Lanka, Uganda, Australia, and Switzerland. These moves signify adjustments within China’s foreign service as it continues to engage with nations across Asia, Africa, and Europe.

Ambassadorial Changes Announced

Wei Huaxiang will serve as the new ambassador to Sri Lanka, succeeding Qi Zhenhong in the role. Wu Guangrong has been appointed as China’s ambassador to Uganda, replacing Zhang Lizhong. The appointment of Liu Jinsong as ambassador to Australia follows the departure of Xiao Qian.

Geneva-Based Diplomat Appointed

Li Chijiang was named deputy permanent representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, also assuming the role of ambassador for disarmament affairs. He replaces Shen Jian in this capacity. The appointments reflect China’s ongoing diplomatic efforts within key international forums.

The changes are effective immediately, signaling a continuation of China's diplomatic presence across multiple continents.
