Kathmandu— Parliamentary party leader of the Nepali Congress, Bhishma Raj Angdembe, has urged the government to accelerate search efforts for those missing since the August 26 disaster, distribute aid materials, and ensure safe shelters for displaced individuals. Addressing the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting on September 2, Angdembe emphasized the urgency caused by devastating flash floods that ravaged the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli River corridors.

Call to Action

Angdembe highlighted the need for robust coordination among all levels of government, private sector entities, and affected communities. He stressed that it is not a time for publicity or blame but rather an urgent moment to save lives and fulfill responsibilities. The leader emphasized the importance of national unity in saving citizens' lives.

Proposed Measures

Angdembe suggested forming a high-level parliamentary special committee to prepare guidelines on monitoring government activities related to disaster responses, including long-term rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts. He also stressed the need for adequate transparency in aid distribution and reconstruction processes.

Gratitude and Preparedness

Angdembe expressed gratitude towards various organizations and individuals working tirelessly on the frontlines of disaster response, including the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, local representatives, technical experts, medical workers, and others. He also thanked all Nepalis in the country and abroad for their readiness to assist and show solidarity with Nepal.
