Criminal Fraudsters Threaten America’s Public Lands and Wildlife

ABC NEWS

Kathmandu— Recent activities affecting public lands in the United States seek to undermine ecological stewardship and promote commercial interests. This shift is seen as a continuation of American settler-colonialism that began in the late 1490s and continues today. Federal land managers are accused of following orders from Washington, D.C., which result in the destruction of natural habitats and the endangerment of wildlife.

Endangered Species Act Under Attack

The Department of Interior (USDI) has redefined 'harm' under the Endangered Species Act to exempt critical habitat destruction, jeopardizing the survival of threatened species. Additionally, the Department of Agriculture proposed rescinding the Roadless Area Conservation Rule, exposing millions of acres to unregulated development and exploitation.

Grizzly Bear Management Shift

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum has proposed transferring grizzly bear management to state agencies, which could lead to increased hunting and killing of these endangered animals. State fish and game agencies aim to boost revenue by selling hunts to international trophy hunters, while livestock departments kill bears to protect subsidized producers.

Expanding Industrial Activities

The Department of Agriculture also plans to revise the Travel Management Planning Rule on National Forests, expanding areas for off-road vehicles and other activities that harm wildlife and water quality. These changes are seen as part of a broader trend towards industrial exploitation of public lands.

Growing Resistance

Despite these threats, dedicated individuals and grassroots groups continue to fight against the destruction of natural habitats and wildlife. They emphasize the importance of preserving clean water and wild areas for future generations.
