Kathmandu— Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed over 40 employees accused of corruption and financial misconduct over the past three years. The chairman of EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, revealed these dismissals during an event in Abuja on Monday, highlighting that five of the dismissed staff are facing prosecution.

According to Olukoyede, the dismissals were part of a broader effort to ensure EFCC's integrity. He emphasized that those working against corruption must themselves be free from corrupt practices. "You must be sure that your hands are clean. You can’t be fighting corruption when your hands are soiled with corrupt practices," he stated.

EFCC’s Achievements

During the briefing, Olukoyede also highlighted EFCC's achievements in recovering funds and securing convictions. The commission has recovered 1.23 trillion naira ($923m) and secured a 75 percent conviction rate over the past three years. Between October 2023 and July 2026, EFCC received 49,673 petitions, investigated 39,615 cases, filed 14,476 cases in court, and secured 10,872 convictions.

The EFCC's efforts to clean up its ranks and continue fighting corruption reflect a commitment to integrity and accountability within the agency.
