Kathmandu— The Nepalese government, following a meeting of the Council of Ministers at Singhadurbar today, announced that September 7 will be observed as a national mourning day for those who lost their lives in the recent Bhitekoshi River flood. The next day, September 8, has been declared a public holiday to commemorate 'Gen-Z Martyrs' day. During the mourning day, flags will fly at half-mast across all government offices and diplomatic missions abroad.

Flood Relief Measures

The government has accepted a $5 million grant from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for rescue and relief efforts. Additionally, an integrated business resilience plan will provide tax exemptions and other benefits to restart industries affected by the flood. The Cabinet also approved Salt Trading Corporation Limited and Food Management and Trading Company Limited to import 25,000 metric tons of sugar at a reduced customs duty rate.

Support for Rescue Workers

Special facilities will be provided to employees involved in rescue operations. The government has decided to provide risk allowances and snack expenses to security personnel and civil service staff engaged in search and rescue efforts following the flood. Free treatment is also available to rescuers if they are injured, with a relief package of one million rupees for their families in case of casualties.

Personnel Appointments

The Cabinet has decided to promote Narayan Prasad Bhatta to the position of Secretary in the Special Gazetteed Category under the Nepal Administrative Service and appoint him as Chief Secretary at the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, Koshi Province.
