Ongoing road expansion renders 200 families homeless

Mahottari, 26 Jan : Ongoing expansion of the Samsi-Maisthan road has rendered around 200 families residing along the roadside homeless.

The families at Bairiya and Sheraha of Aaurahi Municipality have become victim of the road expansion that will be upgraded into four lanes.
The affected people have gone agitated demanding ‘decent’ compensation, which has affected the road expansion.

They have demanded compensation for land acquired for the road expansion and a house demolished for the same as per existing price valuation, something against the government’s decision to provide Rs 75,000 in compensation for one katta land and provide compensation for a house demolished for the same as per price valuation by the Town Development and Building Division Office.

“Or the government should rehabilitate us by purchasing land elsewhere,” said a local person affected by the road expansion.

Chief District Officer Baburam Shrestha said the affected locals would be compensated for a land acquired for the road upgradation as per existing price valuation.

Danfe Golden Goods has been contracted to upgrade the Rs 646 million project that started in February 2017 with the target to complete it within two years. So far 31 percent of the construction has been completed, said the contractor.
