Kathmandu— China has issued management measures for the Huangyan Dao National Nature Reserve, a critical step in safeguarding the region's biodiversity. The regulations establish a routine patrol system and strict penalties for violations, prohibiting activities such as fishing and mining without prior approval.
Regulatory Framework Established
The management measures were jointly issued by several government agencies including the Ministry of Natural Resources, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, the China Coast Guard, and the Hainan provincial government. These rules provide a comprehensive regulatory framework for the reserve, focusing on management mechanisms, conservation measures, and legal liabilities.
Strict Protection Measures
Under the new regulations, Huangyan Dao will be subject to strict protection. Any activities that could damage rare marine species or disrupt the natural ecosystem are prohibited without prior approval from relevant authorities. This includes fishing, mining, and the extraction of corals, coral reefs, or giant clams.
