Kathmandu— In a significant show of unity, Karnataka's political leaders gathered for an all-party meeting chaired by Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to discuss the ongoing Cauvery water dispute. Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah emphasized the state’s historical precedent of setting aside party differences in times of crisis.

Historical Precedent for Unity

Siddaramaiah, speaking at the meeting, highlighted Karnataka's long-standing tradition of political unity when faced with critical issues such as land, water, and language. He noted that in past administrations, opposition parties have consistently supported government efforts to address these challenges.

"When faced with the question of land – water – language, it is the political tradition of Karnataka to set aside party differences and stand united for the sake of the state," Siddaramaiah said on X.

Chief Minister's Call for Unity

Chief Minister DK Shivakumar echoed this sentiment during his address at the meeting, emphasizing that the interests of Karnataka’s farmers and people are paramount. He urged all parties to put aside political differences in the interest of the state.

"The interests of the state's farmers and people are more important than politics," Shivakumar said.
