Kathmandu— Biratnagar, a major city in Nepal's eastern region, has recorded the highest rainfall in the country with an impressive 151.6 millimetres over a single day, as per data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA). The authority also reported that out of 437 measurement stations across Nepal, 365 recorded significant rainfall during this period.

Rainfall Extent Across Nepal

The NDRRMA data reveals a widespread impact from the monsoon rains. In addition to Biratnagar's record-breaking figures, several other regions experienced heavy precipitation. The authority’s monitoring stations across the country recorded substantial rainfall, indicating that the monsoon season is intensifying and affecting multiple areas simultaneously.

While Biratnagar topped the charts with 151.6 millimetres of rain, other parts of Nepal also saw significant downpours, underscoring the widespread nature of this weather event.

Temperature Extremes

Alongside the heavy rainfall, temperature extremes were recorded across different regions of Nepal. Lahan in the eastern part of the country experienced the highest temperature at 37.2 degrees Celsius, while Thakmarpha in Mustang district saw the lowest temperature with a chilly 9.5 degrees Celsius.
