Kathmandu— The current monsoon activities in Nepal are expected to remain active until Thursday afternoon, after which the monsoon trough is forecast to shift slightly southward, leading to a gradual weakening of monsoon conditions. Sanjeeb Adhikari, a meteorologist at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), stated that only normal monsoon activity will be expected from Thursday night onwards.

Monsoon Activity Forecast

Sanjeeb Adhikari noted that active monsoon conditions on Thursday would affect most parts of the country, with central Nepal likely to receive the highest rainfall on Wednesday night. Central and western Nepal are expected to experience more rainfall through Thursday afternoon.

The meteorologist also mentioned that there is no widespread drought across the nation, although some areas in Madhes Province and Lumbini Province have received below-normal rainfall.

Rainfall Distribution

Earlier predictions by the DHM had suggested below-normal rainfall for most parts of Nepal during this monsoon season. However, since the onset of the monsoon on June 19, many areas have recorded normal to above-normal rainfall.

Adhikari explained that rainfall distribution varies significantly from place to place. “According to our records, some places have received above-normal rainfall, others below normal and still others close to normal,” he said.
