Kathmandu— The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has reported that at least one child is being killed per day in Gaza since a so-called 'ceasefire' was announced on October 10, 2025. Over the past 300 days, UNICEF says at least 300 children have been killed and hundreds more wounded, highlighting the ongoing violence despite the truce.
Impact of Ongoing Violence
Children in Gaza continue to face severe hardships. They are confined to about a third of the enclave, living among destroyed buildings, rubble, and uncleared waste. The agency reports that children suffer from acute malnutrition, disease, unsafe water, damaged sanitation, and a shortage of incubators for premature newborns.
Humanitarian Crisis
Since October 2023, more than 58,000 children have lost one or both parents, while over a million require protection and psychosocial support. Many families are living through repeated displacement, loss of income, and limited access to healthcare, education, and protection.
Call for Action
"A ceasefire that leaves an average of one child dead each and every day is failing children," said Edouard Beigbeder, UNICEF regional director for the Middle East and North Africa. He emphasized that aid must reach children at scale, hospitals reopen, and water flow to ensure safety.
