Heavy Monsoon Rainfall Forecast Across Nepal, Risk of Landslides and Flooding

ABC NEWS
७ भदौ २०८३, आइतबार   ११ : ४५   बजे

Kathmandu— A low-pressure system is driving significant monsoon activity across Nepal, bringing light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning to several provinces including Koshi, Bagmati, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim, with some occurrences in Gandaki Province. The Meteorological Forecasting Division has predicted that heavy rainfall may impact hilly areas within these regions, prompting a warning about potential landslides, floods, and erosion. Authorities are advising the public to take precautions as adverse weather conditions could disrupt daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, and transportation.

Widespread Rainfall Observed

Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning has already been observed across multiple provinces of Nepal. The Meteorological Forecasting Division reports activity in Koshi, Bagmati, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces, with some showers also reported in Gandaki Province.

Heavy Rainfall Expected in Hilly Areas

The forecast indicates that heavy rainfall is likely to affect certain hilly areas within the aforementioned provinces. This increased precipitation raises concerns about potential impacts on vulnerable communities and infrastructure.

Disaster Warnings Issued

Nepal’s Meteorological Forecasting Division has issued a warning regarding the risk of disasters associated with the anticipated heavy rainfall. Specifically, authorities are concerned about the possibility of landslides, floods, and erosion in areas susceptible to these hazards.

Authorities continue to monitor the weather situation closely and urge the public to stay informed and take necessary safety precautions.
