Kathmandu— The Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) has announced that the mortal remains of British-Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja and three other climbers have been recovered from Broad Peak and brought to Base Camp following a challenging high-altitude recovery operation. The retrieval marks an important milestone in the ongoing efforts to bring closure to families and the climbing community.

Challenging Recovery Operation

The ACP President, in an official statement posted on Instagram, confirmed that the remains of Nirmal Purja, Zhong Wang, Nima Sherpa, and Kilu Sherpa were successfully recovered during a technically demanding operation. The dedicated ground team led by Mingma G and supported by Sirbaz Khan, Abid Baig, Sherbaz, Dipen Gurung, and Pemba Chhewang Sherpa completed the mission under extremely difficult conditions.

Continued Search Efforts

While this recovery marks an important milestone, three climbers remain missing. The ACP President expressed gratitude to the British High Commission and the Embassy of Nepal for their support during the operation. The club remains committed to supporting all efforts to locate and recover the remaining climbers whenever conditions allow.

Memorial Ceremonies

The tragic events have sparked deep mourning across the international climbing fraternity, with candlelight vigils held in Kathmandu to pay tribute to the 10 climbers who lost their lives. Pemba Rita Sherpa, a 14-time Everest summiteer and cousin of one of the victims, emphasized the importance of bringing the remains back home for closure.

The recovery mission continues as efforts are made to bring all missing climbers' remains to Base Camp and eventually to their families. The mountaineering community mourns the loss of these brave individuals.
