Israeli Attacks on Lebanon Raise Questions About Fragile Ceasefire

ABC NEWS

Kathmandu— Israel launched new air and artillery attacks on Lebanon following the deaths of its soldiers, marking the first such casualties since a fragile ceasefire was established two months ago. The latest military assault comes despite ongoing Lebanese-Israeli talks in Rome as part of a US-brokered peace process aimed at maintaining stability in the region.

Ceasefire Under Strain

The recent attacks underscore the fragility of the ceasefire that began in June. The deaths of Israeli soldiers have reignited tensions, prompting Israel to retaliate with significant military force against Lebanon. This escalation comes at a critical time when diplomatic efforts are underway to stabilize the region.

Diplomatic Efforts Continue

Despite the renewed hostilities, Lebanese-Israeli talks continue in Rome under US mediation. These discussions aim to address underlying issues and prevent further military confrontations. The ongoing dialogue highlights the international community's commitment to maintaining peace in the region.
