Kathmandu— Nepal’s ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is launching the ‘Citizens, Policy and Leadership’ program on Monday, designed to foster a more responsive and accountable political culture. The initiative will require cabinet members representing the party to visit the central party office at least once per month for direct dialogue with citizens and party officials. This effort seeks to bridge the gap between grassroots voices and state policy formulation, addressing grievances and incorporating public suggestions into government action.

Program Structure and Goals

The ‘Citizens, Policy and Leadership’ program is structured in two phases. The initial phase will dedicate one hour each month to open dialogue with the general public, allowing ministers to directly hear concerns, expectations, and suggestions from citizens. This direct engagement aims to ensure that policy decisions reflect the needs of those they affect.

The second phase involves joint meetings between ministers, party central committee members, and members of the House of Representatives. These discussions will focus on contemporary issues and policy-level challenges facing Nepal, informed by the feedback gathered during the public dialogues.

Bridging Governance Gaps

RSP Parliamentary Party Whip Prakash Chandra Pariyar explained that the program is intended to serve as a crucial link between citizens and those in power. He stated the initiative is expected to promote coordination among citizens, government ministers, legislators, and party organization members.

Pariyar emphasized the goal of developing a common strategy for effectively addressing citizen concerns, highlighting the importance of direct communication and collaboration in shaping effective policies.

The RSP hopes this program will establish a new standard for political engagement in Nepal, prioritizing transparency and responsiveness to public needs.
