Israeli Strikes Claim Lives in Ongoing Gaza Attacks

ABC NEWS

Kathmandu— Israeli attacks continue to claim Palestinian lives and inflict damage across the Gaza Strip, as reported by the territory’s Ministry of Health. In the last 48 hours, at least two Palestinians have been killed and four injured, while many victims remain trapped under rubble inaccessible to emergency services. The strikes are concentrated in central and southern Gaza, including the cities of Deir el-Balah and Khan Younis, with reports indicating intensified attacks even within designated “humanitarian zones.”

Recent Strikes Target Central Gaza

An Israeli drone attack on Saturday targeted the al-Hasanat family in Deir el-Balah, killing one person and wounding others. Al Jazeera’s Ashraf Abu Amra, reporting from the city, stated that the attack occurred without warning in a crowded area housing displaced people. Ambulance and civil defense crews transported several wounded individuals to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital. Additionally, Israeli forces carried out two demolition operations within Deir el-Balah, collapsing houses into rubble, and pushed further into eastern parts of the city, positioning troops near civilian areas.

Khan Younis and Gaza City Also Affected

Israeli strikes extended to other areas of the enclave, including Khan Younis in southern Gaza. There, Israeli forces shelled several civilian areas, targeting camps housing displaced Palestinians along the “Yellow Line.” In eastern Gaza City, Israeli forces have advanced, expanding the “Yellow Line” and demolishing property and infrastructure. Reports indicate a woman was wounded near Nuseirat refugee camp following fire from Israeli forces, while artillery attacks continued northeast of the Bureij refugee camp.

Intensified Attacks in Humanitarian Zones

Abu Amra reported that Israeli air and artillery attacks have intensified within areas designated as “humanitarian zones,” where over two million people are concentrated in approximately 30 percent of Gaza’s total area. This concentration exacerbates the impact of the strikes on civilian populations and hinders rescue efforts. Authorities note that the death toll remains incomplete, with thousands feared trapped under destroyed buildings.

Grim Toll Mounts

Since October 2023, a total of 73,419 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza as a result of Israel’s military operations, according to the Health Ministry. Of those fatalities, 1,285 occurred after a ceasefire agreement was reached in October 2025. The ministry also reports that most of the casualties are women and children, and Gaza is facing a critical shortage of burial space as families continue to recover bodies from the rubble.

Rescue efforts remain challenging due to ongoing conflict and limited access to affected areas, while authorities struggle to account for all casualties and provide adequate support to displaced populations.
