Kathmandu— Hikmat Kumar Karki, recently appointed as Chief Minister of Koshi Province, is scheduled to face a vote of confidence in the provincial assembly today. The meeting will be held at the Bagmati Province Assembly and aims to determine whether Karki has sufficient support to lead the province. Secretary of the Province Assembly secretariat, Sudarshan Khadka, confirmed the proceedings are set to take place today.
Vote of Confidence Process
The vote of confidence is a standard procedure following the appointment of a new Chief Minister in Nepal’s provincial system. It requires the appointed leader to demonstrate they command the majority support of the provincial assembly members. Failure to secure a vote of confidence would necessitate either resignation or the initiation of a process to appoint a new Chief Minister.
The outcome of today’s vote will determine whether Karki remains in office as Chief Minister of Koshi Province.
