China’s Top Political Advisor Meets With U.S. Delegates

Kathmandu— China’s top political advisor, Wang Huning, met with a delegation from the United States attending the third China-U.S. Track 1.5 Dialogue in Beijing on Monday, August 24th. Wang, who holds key positions within the Communist Party of China and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, highlighted recent communications between Presidents Xi Jinping and Donald Trump as a foundation for improved relations, expressing China’s willingness to strengthen cooperation and manage differences with the U.S.. The meeting focused on building strategic stability and fostering mutual understanding between the two nations.

Dialogue Follows Presidential Meeting

Wang Huning referenced the May meeting between President Xi Jinping and visiting U.S. President Donald Trump, describing their discussions as in-depth and covering critical issues related to China-U.S. relations and global peace and development. He stated that China is prepared to collaborate with the United States to fully realize the consensus reached by both leaders.

Shared Goals for Bilateral Ties

The U.S. delegates acknowledged the unique position of the relationship between their country and China, emphasizing the importance of the rapport established between Presidents Xi and Trump as a cornerstone of bilateral ties. They expressed agreement with the need to build a constructive U.S.-China relationship characterized by strategic stability, encouraging increased corporate collaboration and expanded cultural exchange.

Areas for Cooperation and Risk Management

Both sides identified areas for potential cooperation, including expanding people-to-people exchanges and fostering economic ties. The U.S. delegation also raised the importance of proactively addressing risks associated with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, suggesting that successful collaboration could benefit both countries and the wider world.

The meeting signals a continued effort by both China and the United States to manage their complex relationship and explore avenues for cooperation despite ongoing differences.
