Chinese Premier Li Qiang Meets With Jordan’s King Abdullah II

Kathmandu— Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of Jordan in Beijing on Monday, August 24, 2026. The meeting focused on bolstering the traditional friendship between their nations, enhancing political trust, and deepening cooperation across various sectors as they prepare to celebrate five decades of diplomatic relations next year. Both leaders expressed commitment to supporting each other’s core interests and working together towards modernization.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Premier Li stated China is prepared to collaborate with Jordan to build upon their existing friendship, increase political trust, and provide unwavering support on issues of critical importance to both countries. He emphasized a desire for continued expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation as they pursue modernization.

The Jordanian King expressed his country’s readiness to enhance exchanges with China at all levels, promoting collaboration in trade, investment, agriculture, mining, tourism, and other fields. He also highlighted the potential for exploring new areas of cooperation such as renewable energy, scientific innovation, and artificial intelligence.

Economic Cooperation Focus

Li indicated a willingness to strengthen development synergy with Jordan, jointly advancing high-quality Belt and Road initiatives. This includes boosting bilateral trade and expanding collaboration in science, technology, and industrial innovation, particularly in green energy, electric vehicles, and the digital economy.

The King affirmed Jordan’s support for China's four global initiatives and expressed hope to work together to elevate Arab-China relations.

Regional Stability and Cultural Exchange

Premier Li conveyed China’s readiness to collaborate with Jordan and other parties to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East and achieve lasting peace and stability. He hopes Jordan will continue its important role in fostering China-Arab relations.

Both leaders also agreed on the importance of increasing cultural exchanges and mutual learning between their civilizations, aiming to deepen understanding and friendship between the two peoples.

The meeting signals a continued commitment from both China and Jordan to strengthen their bilateral relationship and explore new avenues for cooperation.
