Kathmandu— A large-scale rescue operation is underway at the Upper Trishuli Hydropower facility in Nepal after flooding left around 450 workers and locals stranded inside a tunnel. As of today, August 27th, Nepali Army personnel have successfully rescued 350 individuals, while efforts continue to reach the remaining approximately 100 people still trapped within the structure.

Rescue Operation Details

The rescue operation was led by a team from the Nepali Army’s Number 1 Second Movement Tactical Headquarters based in Trishuli. According to the Prime Minister's secretariat, the army successfully extracted 350 people from inside the tunnel. The ongoing effort focuses on reaching and rescuing the remaining individuals who are still trapped.

Broader Flood Response

Beyond the hydropower tunnel incident, the Nepali Army reported that it rescued a total of 833 people from flood-affected areas today. This indicates widespread flooding impacting multiple locations beyond just the Upper Trishuli Hydropower facility.

Rescue teams are continuing to work towards freeing the remaining individuals trapped within the tunnel at the Upper Trishuli Hydropower site.
