Prithivi Highway Blocked After River Washes Away Road Section

ABC NEWS

Kathmandu— The Prithivi Highway has been blocked after a portion of the roadway at Krishanvir was washed away by floodwaters from the Trishuli River on Wednesday, August 30th. The damage spans approximately 50 meters and poses further risk of landslides due to cracks forming in the remaining road surface. Authorities are advising motorists to seek alternative routes while repairs are assessed and undertaken.

Highway Damage Assessment

Dhiraj Dhakal, an engineer with the Prithivi Highway Construction Project at Muglin, confirmed that the river eroded a 50-meter section of the highway. He also noted the potential for further instability due to cracks appearing in the adjacent roadbed.

Dhakal indicated that reopening the highway will require time as crews evaluate the extent of the damage and formulate a repair plan.

Traffic Diversion

Police Inspector Anil Thapa of the District Traffic Police Office in Chitwan has requested that the public utilize alternative routes to bypass the blocked section of the Prithivi Highway. No specific alternate route was named.

Authorities are currently assessing the damage and working to determine a timeline for repairs, with no immediate estimate available.
