Kathmandu— Kathmandu has reported a continuous real-time exchange of information between Nepal and the People's Republic of China concerning hydrological, meteorological data, flood risks, avalanches, glacial lakes, and water-induced disasters. This coordination includes efforts by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and Nepali diplomatic missions in China to collect, assess, and share updated information on the situation of Nepali nationals in China.

Coordination Efforts

The Chinese side has facilitated the return of Nepali nationals from Tibet through Hilsa and other border points. In this hour of difficulty, Nepal continues its close communication with immediate neighbors and the international community. A dedicated Emergency Control Room at MoFA is coordinating with relevant agencies and families of missing people. "Our diplomatic missions are constantly sharing and updating verified information, facilitating communication with families and extending necessary assistance," said Lok Bahadur Poudel Chettri, MoFA Spokesperson.

International Support

Nepal has received generous rescue support from India, China, Japan, the United States, United Arab Emirates, Republic of Korea, and other countries. This includes bridge units, freezers, generator sets, solar lamps, DNA testing kits, emergency relief equipment, tents, blankets, sleeping bags, food packets, and medicines. Requests have been made for essential non-food items like freezers, DNA testing kits, LiDAR from the USA, DVI services from Singapore, belly bridges, and high-capacity drones from China and Singapore.

Rescue Operations

The post-disaster rescue situation is being effectively handled by unified teams of security agencies. Government agencies are working with specialized technical teams for tunnel rescue from India, China, and the Republic of Korea in coordination with Nepali authorities. A team of 18 forensic experts from India specializing in DNA analysis has arrived since August 29th.

The Prime Minister is deeply engaged in monitoring and supervising these operations. Nepal reiterates its need for assistance, particularly in areas like tunnel rescue, freezers, LiDAR, DNA and forensic expertise.
