Real-Time CCTV Camera Installed in Timure for Flood Monitoring

ABC NEWS

Kathmandu— A real-time CCTV camera has been installed at Timure, Rasuwa, to monitor river conditions and flood risks. The installation was led by the Centre of Hydrology and Water Resources Research under the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation. This initiative aims to provide timely information about potential flooding in the border area with China and enhance the effectiveness of early warning systems.

Minister's Role

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha held discussions with officials from the Centre and the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology to address weather conditions and potential flood risks in areas like Rasuwa and Nuwakot. The talks focused on continuous river monitoring, strengthening early warning systems, and preparing for risk reduction.

System Expansion

Following the discussions, work began to expand the monitoring system at Timure. While cameras have been installed, efforts are ongoing to manage VSAT and communication systems to ensure full operational capability. The footage from these cameras will be integrated into a 24-hour flood forecast and early warning service.

Expected Benefits

The new system is expected to provide timely information about potential flood risks in the Timure–Rasuwagadhi area, which lies along the border with China. By enabling timely dissemination of information and issuance of early warnings, it aims to minimize loss of life and property.
