Kathmandu— Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a significant speech on Tuesday at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Plus Meeting in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. In his address, Xi advocated for an equal and orderly multipolar world, emphasizing that global governance should be more just and equitable. The meeting focused on strengthening the role of the United Nations and building a multipolar world, reflecting SCO's commitment to reforming and improving international governance.

Advocating Multipolarity

Xi Jinping highlighted that major changes are accelerating globally, with hegemonism, unilateralism, and protectionism resurging against historical trends. However, the majority of the world prefers development through national progress and international cooperation over power politics and isolation. The rise of the Global South is driving a profound shift in global power dynamics, making the trend toward multipolarity irreversible. Xi emphasized that an equal and orderly multipolar world requires sovereign equality, mutual respect, balance, order, and adherence to the rule of law.

SCO's Role

After 25 years, the SCO has set a stellar example in conducting relations among big countries, neighbors, and countries of different sizes. It brings together half of the world’s population and a quarter of the global economy, generating strong development forces. Xi called for advancing common prosperity through high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, promoting the development of the Global South, and guiding the reform of global governance to ensure equal participation by all nations.
