Kathmandu— Meteorologists from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) have forecasted that moderate rainfall is expected this afternoon in the regions affected by the Bhotekoshi flood, including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading. The prediction comes as rescue operations face additional challenges due to water accumulation in hydropower tunnels caused by overnight rain.

Rainfall Predictions

According to the DHM, moderate rainfall has been recorded across various provinces of Nepal over the past 12 hours. The highest rainfall was measured at Nosyam Pati in Sindhupalchok, reaching 60.2 millimeters. Moderate rain is expected in Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, while light to moderate rain will affect Koshi, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces. The department has also stated that the weather across Nepal will be generally cloudy this afternoon.

Impact on Rescue Operations

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) reported additional challenges in rescue operations due to water accumulation caused by rain. Executive Chief Dr. Dharma Raj Uprety stated that overnight rain filled the hydropower tunnel, submerging a pump used for drainage. Rescue teams are working on removing the submerged pump and draining the water from the affected areas.
