Kathmandu— Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan toured the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza, Egypt, on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026, accompanied by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his wife Entissar El-Sisi. The visit highlighted the cultural ties between China and Egypt, two ancient civilizations rich in World Heritage sites.

Museum Highlights

The tour included viewing exquisite stone carvings and inscribed pillars within the museum. Xi Jinping and El-Sisi also visited the Tutankhamun exhibition hall, where they admired treasures such as the pharaoh's throne, golden mask, and royal chariots.

Cultural Diplomacy

Xi Jinping emphasized that China and Egypt have been reaching out to each other across time and space, adding new chapters of everlasting friendship between their peoples. He called on both sides to uphold the vision of civilization based on equality, mutual learning, dialogue, and inclusiveness, and implement the Global Civilization Initiative.

El-Sisi thanked Xi for extending congratulations on the opening of the museum last year and expressed Egypt's readiness to work with China to promote people-to-people exchanges and cultural interactions.
