Kathmandu— The House of Representatives' Infrastructure Development Committee in Nepal has instructed the government to give high priority to rescuing individuals trapped in tunnels and other areas due to the Bhotekoshi flood. The committee, meeting on September 3, directed immediate search and rescue efforts, coordination with local authorities, and the reopening of blocked roads for safe transfer of those affected.

Rescue Efforts Accelerated

The committee has emphasized speeding up rescue operations in collaboration with federal and local authorities. It also directed immediate action to reopen roads obstructed by floods and repair damaged infrastructure such as bridges and power lines, aiming to restore electricity service quickly.

Infrastructure Reconstruction Plans

To support the reconstruction efforts, the committee has instructed relevant bodies to mobilize financial and technical assistance from private sectors, development partners, and international organizations. The focus is on rebuilding safe, sustainable, and disaster-resilient infrastructure using aid from donor agencies in an integrated and transparent manner.

Enhancing Early Warning Systems

The committee has recommended developing robust early warning systems with modern technology to reduce climate-related disaster risks. It also suggested creating an integrated information system that provides real-time updates on affected areas, families, and individuals.

The meeting concluded by calling for immediate relief efforts including food, health services, and other necessary assistance in flood-affected regions based on needs and priorities.
