Kathmandu— Nepal's police force has recovered a total of 1,252 bodies following the devastating Bhotekoshi flash flood. The victims were found across various districts including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Chitwan, Gorkha, Tanahu, East Nawalparasi, West Nawalparasi, and even in India near the border. As of now, 95 bodies have been handed over to their families, while efforts continue to identify the remaining unidentified victims.

Body Recovery Efforts

The recovery operation has seen bodies found across multiple districts: 127 in Rasuwa, 177 in Nuwakot, 60 in Dhading, 355 in Chitwan, 69 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahu, 218 in East Nawalparasi, 190 in West Nawalparasi, and 18 in India. The central police spokesperson Abhi Narayan Kafle stated that so far, 95 bodies have been handed over to their relatives.

Identification Process

The identification process involves collecting DNA samples for identifying the recovered bodies and completing necessary procedures. A total of 897 bodies have been safely managed underground, including those of 213 women, 314 men, and 370 unidentified individuals. The details of 959 unidentified bodies have been posted on the Nepal Police website.

Ongoing Rescue Operations

Rescue operations continue with 7,912 police personnel deployed for rescue, search, relief distribution, and corpse management in flood-affected areas. The search for 4,875 missing individuals is ongoing. Additionally, 3,126 flood victims are currently taking shelter in 'holding centers' across districts such as Nuwakot and Rasuwa.
