Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported the incident, which initially claimed one death but was later found to be false. The attack follows more than a week of sustained strikes on the capital. Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy anticipates talks with U.S. envoys in the coming days as diplomatic efforts to end Russia's invasion stall.

Attack Details and Aftermath

The attack damaged the ninth floor of a high-rise residence, leading to the evacuation of 15 people from the building. Video footage showed a large fireball rising skywards, with unofficial channels suggesting that a jet-powered drone was responsible for the strike. Local media reported additional explosions in Kyiv following the initial attack, and an air raid alert remained active for over two hours.

Diplomatic Efforts

Zelenskyy expressed hope to host U.S. President Donald Trump’s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, in Kyiv soon to resume efforts aimed at ending the Russian invasion. These envoys have been involved in shuttle diplomacy between Russia and Ukraine but have never visited Kyiv before. Zelenskyy noted that tentative dates for their first visit were set.

Additional Incidents

Separately, one person was killed and five others injured when a Ukrainian drone struck a bus in Horlivka, a Russian-controlled part of Ukraine’s Donetsk region. In another incident, a separate drone attack on a passenger bus in Russia's Belgorod region resulted in one death and four injuries.
