Kathmandu— Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was acquitted on Monday by an Indian court in a sexual harassment case involving women wrestlers. The verdict, which came after detailed arguments from both sides, has been welcomed by Singh who stated it is a matter of joy for him and his supporters.

Court Acquits Former WFI Chief

The court acquitted Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and Vinod Tomar on Monday in the sexual harassment case involving women wrestlers. The verdict came after a series of hearings where both sides presented their arguments. Senior advocate Rebecca John advanced arguments for the complainants, while Rajiv Mohan led the defense team. The court reserved its judgment following detailed submissions from both parties.

Background and Proceedings

The case originated from allegations made by women wrestlers against Singh during his tenure as WFI chief. Delhi Police filed a chargesheet in 2023, alleging offences including sexual harassment, assault or criminal force against women, and criminal intimidation under Sections 354, 754A, 354D, and 506(1) of the Indian Penal Code. The proceedings were conducted in a closed courtroom with detailed arguments from both sides leading up to the final judgment.
