Kathmandu— The monsoon season is currently affecting Nepal, leading to generally cloudy weather conditions across the country today. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the monsoon trough has shifted slightly northward near the Tarai region, increasing the likelihood of rain and thunderstorms in various parts of the nation.
Monsoon Trough Position
The Weather Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology reported that the monsoon trough has moved slightly northward from its normal position, bringing moisture-laden winds to the Tarai region. This shift is expected to cause cloudy conditions throughout Nepal.
Rainfall Predictions
The department predicts moderate rainfall at some places in the Himalayan region and moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in many parts of the Hilly and Tarai regions. Specifically, there is a high chance of heavy rainfall at one or two places in Koshi and Bagmati provinces, as well as in Gandaki and Lumbini provinces’ hilly and Tarai areas, and Karnali and Sudurpashchim’s hilly regions.
