Kathmandu— On Wednesday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin arrived at the state legislature for the first day of the assembly session. The TVK-led government is set to present its maiden budget, with key announcements expected including an increase in women's monthly honorarium and free bus travel.
Political Tensions Escalate
The arrival of both leaders comes amid heightened political tensions following Udhayanidhi Stalin’s arrest over alleged offensive remarks about actress Trisha during a public speech. The DMK leader was later released after intervention by the Madras High Court, but not before causing significant disruption to the assembly proceedings.
After his release, Udhayanidhi asserted that the legal action against him was an attempt to divert attention from administrative failures and accused the ruling party of spreading slander against him.
Key Budget Announcements
The maiden budget presentation by Finance Minister N Marie Wilson is expected to include several key announcements. These are anticipated to focus on women's welfare, with a proposed increase in monthly honorarium for women, as well as free bus travel and major revenue reforms.
Additionally, the state government plans to launch the 'Vettri Thamizhagam' Vision Document, which outlines its vision for Tamil Nadu’s future. The Agriculture budget will also be presented on August 6.
