Lok Sabha Speaker Criticizes Opposition for Stalling Proceedings

ABC NEWS

Kathmandu— On Friday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla criticized opposition members for stalling proceedings in the Indian Parliament due to protests over the NEET paper leak and alleged theft of Ram temple donations. Addressing the lower house, Birla urged members to follow parliamentary decorum and engage in discussions and dialogues rather than disrupting Question Hour.

Speaker's Appeal

Birla invoked the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi and BR Ambedkar, emphasizing that democracy could be strengthened through discussion and dialogue. He appealed to members to reflect on their conduct and allow the House to function properly during Question Hour.

Ongoing Protests

The protests continued despite Birla's appeal, leading to the adjournment of the Lok Sabha until 12 noon. The opposition was protesting over issues including the NEET paper leak and alleged theft of Ram temple donations.

Scheduled Bills

According to the Revised List of Business, the House is scheduled to consider and pass two bills: The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026, moved by Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, and the Kashmiri Pandits (Recourse, Restitution, Rehabilitation and Resettlement) Bill, 2025.
