Kathmandu— On August 7, both Houses of India's Parliament were adjourned until August 10 due to disruptions by opposition parties who demanded that Union Home Minister Amit Shah address police action against protesters on July 20. In the Lok Sabha, the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill was passed despite the din in the House.

Opposition Demands Statement

The opposition parties demanded that Home Minister Amit Shah address the police action against protesters on July 20. Amidst ruckus, Rajya Sabha chairperson CP Radhakrishnan urged both sides to be seated. The House was adjourned during the Question Hour as a result of the disruptions.

MSME Bill Passed

Despite the din in the Lok Sabha, the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill was passed. This bill provides for the establishment of a national digital platform for free registration of MSMEs, facilitates additional councils by state governments, and decriminalizes certain offenses with graded penalties.

Minister's Presence in Parliament

Kiren Rijiju, Parliamentary Affairs Minister, refuted claims that the Chair had directed Amit Shah to come to the House. He emphasized that opposition parties cannot dictate which minister should attend and when. Rijiju also stated that Home Minister Shah is present at the Parliament complex daily.
