Nepal’s Land Minister Calls for Unified Government Approach to Resolve Property Issues

Kathmandu— Nepal’s Minister for Land Management, Cooperative, Federal Affairs and General Administration, Pratibha Rawal, urged all three levels of government – federal, provincial, and local – to share responsibility in resolving the country’s ongoing land-related issues. Speaking at an event in Dodhara Chandani Municipality on Wednesday, she stated that her ministry is prioritizing these concerns and requires equivalent cooperation from both province and local authorities to ensure effective progress. She warned that delays in issuing land ownership certificates to squatters could occur without sufficient collaboration across all governmental layers.

Call for Intergovernmental Cooperation

Minister Rawal stressed the importance of a unified approach, stating that addressing land issues requires equal responsibility from each level of government. She indicated that the current administration is making resolving these matters a top priority and actively seeking the same level of commitment from provincial and local governments.

The minister expressed concern that a lack of cooperation from any one governmental layer could impede progress, specifically citing potential delays in distributing land ownership certificates to those currently considered squatters.

Ministerial Consultations

Following her address, Minister Rawal engaged in discussions with leaders and officials from the District Land Administration Office, Survey Office, and local government representatives at the Kanchanpur District Administration Office. The meeting focused on identifying and addressing longstanding land issues within the district.

Minister Rawal also conducted site visits to the Majhgaun airport currently under construction in Mahendranagar and the dryport being built in Dodhara Chandani.
