Kathmandu— Nepal’s Inspector General (IG) of Police, Dan Bahadur Karki, stated that the Nepal Police possesses an institutional memory encompassing all criminal cases and is committed to bringing perpetrators to justice at any time. Speaking with RSS, Karki explained that while individual memories may fade, the police organization relentlessly pursues justice for individuals, ensuring no case is forgotten. He acknowledged shortcomings in achieving complete success but highlighted ongoing investigations into both recent and historical crimes.
Institutional Memory and Pursuit of Justice
Karki emphasized that Nepal Police maintains a record of all criminal activities occurring within the country, allowing them to pursue justice even decades after the offenses took place. He stated the organization does not forget such cases, distinguishing it from individual human memory which is prone to fading over time. “People’s memories fade in a short time. But, Nepal Police is an institution to relentlessly fight for the justice of individuals,” Karki said.
Ongoing Investigations and Successes
The police chief confirmed that special teams are currently investigating notorious cases from the past, with some successes already achieved. He noted that investigations are being conducted on both new and historical criminal matters simultaneously through the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB). According to Karki, the Nepal Police utilizes studies and frequent investigation processes to bring perpetrators under the law.
Karki affirmed the ongoing commitment of Nepal Police to investigate past and present crimes, maintaining its institutional memory for all cases.
