Kathmandu— The People's Republic of China has provided $2 million in emergency flood relief assistance to Nepal, aimed at managing post-disaster situations in areas affected by flooding along the Bhotekoshi river. This contribution was handed over by Chinese Ambassador Zhang Maoming to Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle on August 30th. In addition to financial aid, China has also provided logistical support and expertise.

Financial Assistance Details

The $2 million contribution includes a direct donation of $2 million from the Chinese government and an additional $200,000 from the Chinese Red Cross Society, which was handed over to Nepal's Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund. The financial aid is intended for immediate relief efforts in flood-affected areas.

Logistical Support

China has not only provided monetary assistance but also logistical support, including the airlift of a first consignment of relief supplies to Kathmandu and sending an expert tunnel rescue team. Additionally, China is sharing critical information such as photos of disaster-affected areas and hydrological and meteorological data with Nepal.

Nepal's Response

Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle expressed gratitude for the assistance from China during this difficult time. He praised the strong friendship between the two countries and assured that Nepal will utilize the aid effectively to rescue stranded individuals in disaster-affected areas. The minister also highlighted the importance of continued bilateral cooperation in post-disaster planning and reconstruction efforts.
