Israeli Air Strikes Kill At Least Five in Gaza

ABC NEWS

Kathmandu— Israeli air strikes on Monday killed at least five Palestinians in the Gaza Strip despite a US-brokered ceasefire. Two individuals were killed when an airstrike hit a crowd near a municipal public park in Gaza City, and three others died when another strike targeted a vehicle in Tal al-Hawa neighborhood. The Israeli military claimed these attacks targeted Hamas fighters without providing evidence.

Escalation of Attacks

Israel has escalated its attacks across the Gaza Strip in recent days, despite the ceasefire agreed upon in October 2023. On Sunday, an Israeli strike on Deir el-Balah killed two Palestinians, including a three-year-old child. The previous day, at least four people were killed by Israeli attacks.

Humanitarian Impact

The ongoing conflict has had severe humanitarian consequences for the residents of Gaza. Since October 7, 2023, over 1,300 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health. Additionally, between 4,000 and 5,000 Palestinians are believed to be dead under rubble or missing.

Ceasefire Criticism

Amjad Abu Abdo, a relative of one of the victims killed in Monday's attacks, told Reuters that there has been no ceasefire since October 7. He described the constant fear and lack of sleep due to the sound of drones and the threat of being hit by airstrikes.
