Kathmandu— Electricity supply has been restored in most parts of Nepal's Rasuwa district within six days after a devastating flash flood severely damaged power distribution infrastructure. The Bhotekoshi River flood on Wednesday caused extensive damage to electricity poles, transmission lines, and transformers, leaving large parts of the district without power. According to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), continuous efforts by technicians and management have reconnected electricity to Rasuwa despite adverse weather conditions.

Restoration Efforts

Electricity was restored on Monday to all areas of Kalika Rural Municipality and some parts of Naukunda and Gosainkunda Rural Municipalities in Rasuwa. The district headquarters, Dhunche, has also been reconnected, with around 30 percent of households now receiving power. A new 11 kV line was constructed from Suryagadhi in Nuwakot to the Rasuwa border to provide electricity.

Ongoing Challenges

While voltage problems may be seen in some places due to long-distance alternative lines, normal electrical equipment can still operate. The NEA said around 85 percent of affected areas in Nuwakot, Dhading, and Rasuwa have been reconnected by Monday. Efforts are underway to restore power fully within a week.

Preparations for Isolated Operation

The NEA is preparing to operate the Sanjen Hydropower Plant in isolated mode to restore power supply in Rasuwa, where regular supply has been affected due to floods. Technical preparations and coordination are under way to reset the machine's password with assistance from a Chinese company.
