Kathmandu— A section of the Prithvi Highway near Pareba Bhir in Gajuri Rural Municipality-2 has collapsed due to erosion from the Trishuli River. Rajiv Manandhar, an engineer at the Naubise-Malekhu road up-gradation project, informed that a four-meter wide and hundred-meter long diversion has been created to resume traffic after about 100 meters of the highway caved in.

Road Damage Extent

The damage is not limited to Pareba Bhir. Some 20 meters of road at Shital Bazar in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality have also cracked due to the same erosion issues. Additionally, about 120 meters of road at Krishna Bhir slid into the Trishuli River.

Diversion and Alternative Routes

To address the collapse, a diversion has been opened by cutting an adjacent steep area. Efforts are underway to fix alternative roads as part of the recovery process. A study is being conducted on using the Fisling-Benighat (Gorkha) road as an alternate route to cross the affected Krishna Bhir area.
