Former PM Prachanda Calls for Global Action on Climate Change Amid Nepal Flood Crisis

Kathmandu— Former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, also known as Prachanda, has called for global action on climate change in response to the recent Bhotekoshi flash flood crisis in Nepal. Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) today, Prachanda emphasized that natural disasters like this are not just national issues but part of a larger global problem.

Global Climate Change Implications

Prachanda highlighted that Nepal has been experiencing frequent natural disasters in recent years and stressed that these crises do not belong to any single country. He noted, 'If the international community does not see it deeply, whole of humanity could face crisis.' Prachanda emphasized that Nepal is bearing direct and serious consequences of climate change, which he raised during his tenure as Prime Minister at the UN General Assembly.

Nepal's Role in International Forums

The former PM called for Nepal to raise the issue of climate change more vocally and seriously in international forums. He pointed out that while Nepal does not produce carbon, it is affected by emissions from rich, developed countries. Prachanda stressed the need for a stronger voice on this matter at global levels.

Supporting Government Efforts

Prachanda expressed his party's support for the government during this time of crisis and emphasized that 'the government should be visible in times of crisis, and the nation should stand united.' He also stressed the importance of mobilizing people alongside military efforts to aid rescue and relief operations.
