Kathmandu— Chinese President Xi Jinping called on China and Egypt to deepen their strategic partnership during talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo on Wednesday. The meeting, held amid a turbulent international landscape, focused on enhancing cooperation across various fields including trade, infrastructure development, technology, and security. Additionally, Xi proposed a four-point plan for building a new security architecture in the Middle East to promote regional stability.
Enhancing Bilateral Cooperation
Xi emphasized that China-Egypt relations have developed distinctive features of equality, mutual trust, and win-win cooperation over seven decades. He highlighted the importance of supporting each other's development strategies and fostering new areas of collaboration in green energy, electric vehicles, aerospace, the digital economy, and modern agricultural technology. Xi also stressed the need for comprehensive exchanges in culture, education, science and technology, health, and sports to strengthen people-to-people bonds.
Regional Security Proposal
Xi proposed a four-point plan aimed at building a new security architecture in the Middle East. The proposal includes fostering internal driving forces for common security, rejecting external interference, adopting comprehensive solutions to multiple hotspots, and strengthening development as the foundation for peace. Xi also called for international coordination based on the UN Charter and international law, urging respect for regional sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Multilateral Collaboration
Xi stressed the importance of multilateral collaboration between China and Egypt at platforms such as the United Nations and BRICS. Both leaders agreed to jointly promote the development of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, opposing unilateralism and promoting a more equitable global governance system.
