Kathmandu— The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged all three levels of government to enhance the effectiveness of rescue, relief, treatment, and rehabilitation operations in areas affected by recent floods along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers. NHRC Joint Secretary Dr Tikaram Pokhrel emphasized that these efforts should be conducted with a focus on human rights.

Monitoring Teams Deployed

Dr Pokhrel stated that monitoring teams have been deployed in affected districts such as Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, and Chitwan to oversee rescue operations, treat the injured, and assess the human rights situation of those in holding centers. The NHRC has also extended condolences to families who lost loved ones in the floods and expressed sympathy for the grieving families.

Collaboration with Private Sector

The commission urged all three levels of government to collaborate and coordinate with the private sector on rescue, relief, treatment, and rehabilitation efforts. The NHRC thanked security personnel, health workers, civil service staff, psychosocial counselors, national and international organizations, and the general public for their humanitarian aid and rescue efforts.

Public Appeal

The commission further requested the general public to support government activities related to rescue, relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction. It encouraged active participation in humanitarian aid efforts and advised against making negative comments on social media about affected families' suffering during this difficult time.
