Kathmandu— Prime Minister Balendra Shah of Nepal has acknowledged that the recent flood in the Bhotekoshi River, which devastated parts of Rasuwa district, is a consequence of minor errors made by his administration. The disaster, which occurred on August 26, has left thousands affected and displaced. In response to the crisis, the government has initiated relief efforts and sought international assistance.

Disaster Response Efforts

The Prime Minister stated that Nepal is working round-the-clock using available resources to manage the disaster. Various holding centers have been set up in affected areas to accommodate citizens, with food, clothing, and daily necessities being provided. In Nuwakot, 2,796 citizens are staying in 24 holding centers, while in Rasuwa, 195 people are accommodated in five holding centers. Additionally, two locations in Kathmandu have been set up to house 300 citizens from different affected areas of Rasuwa.

Infrastructure Restoration

Work is underway to restore infrastructure damaged by the floods. Communication services have been restored more than 95 percent, but electricity remains pending for only 5.77 percent of households in the affected areas. Efforts are being made under the leadership of concerned ministries to bring other infrastructure back to its original state at a rapid pace.
