Kathmandu December 30.Jailbirds are facing tough time in their health treatment in absence of health workers at Tulsipur and Ghorahi jails in Dang. The prisons now are accommodating over three-fold inmates than their real capacities. Top of that, absence of health workers for inmates’ regular check-up services has brought a big challenge, Tulsipur prison in-charge Jokhim Oli said. “There is no health worker to provide check-up services at prison”, he said, adding it has caused trouble in health treatment of jailbirds. He said adjustment of a permanent health worker of Tulsipur jail on last October caused trouble in providing health services to inmates. According to the jail official records, the annual health spending of Tulsipur prison is Rs 600,000. There are 376 inmates in Tulsipur jail. Similar is the story at Ghorahi jail. With the adjustment of health workers here, the prison has witnessed absence of health human resource since last October, said jailer Bishnu Pandey. Due to plummeting mercury, the jailbirds are increasingly suffering from common cold, muscle pain, fever and headache among others, Pandey informed. There are no postings of health workers as per the quota and public spending is increasing in course of their treatment at hospitals, the prison administration said. Out of budget Rs 180,000 allocated in the current fiscal year, Rs 150,000 has been so far spent in treatment, Pandey informed. There are 315 jailbirds in Ghorahi prison.
