Kathmandu : CPN-UML is scheduled to hold its party’s constitutional general convention from August 9 to 11. Similarly, the party has decided to hold its tenth general convention in mid-April next year.
A meeting of the Central Committee held on Saturday has given the responsibility to Chairman KP Sharma Oli to write a political report to be presented in the constitution Convention.
Similarly, General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel is scheduled to present the organizational report at the General Convention. The meeting has tasked Deputy Secretary General Bishnu Poudel to prepare a proposal to amend the constitution.
There is a provision in the UML’s constitution to hold a general convention to discuss the amendment of the constitution and the party’s policy, program and ideas.
The UML has decided to hold a policy debate at the party’s general constitution convention now as the policy and leadership were being discussed at the party’s general convention and everyone’s attention was focused on leadership selection. The upcoming tenth national general convention will now be for leadership selection only.
Prime Minister and party chairman Oli has accused senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal’s side of trying to confuse the two leaders by sending them to talk in the name of talks. He accused the Madhav Nepal group of trying to end the UML movement.
Addressing a meeting of the UML Central Committee at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar on Saturday, Chairman Oli accused the Nepal side of playing tricks in the name of dialogue. Leader Nepal had requested to postpone Friday’s meeting and hold a consensus meeting.
Oli’s outrage over burning of President’s idol:
“Are these not political parties burning the President’s idol?” By postponing the meeting we have to wait for the idol burner? We will not even sit and wait until they burn the idol? ‘Oli said at the meeting,’ Two people will be asked to negotiate with us, while the idol will be burnt in the street. Two people were assigned to confuse us. To act as if we have sorcery, and to provoke against us all over the country.
Oli accused the Congress-led opposition of failing to uphold the presidency. Oli said that those who would sign in favor of Deuba till the issue is decided by the Supreme Court the couldn’t be UML.
Oli warned that action would be taken against those who maintain signatures in favor of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba. Oli was applauded by the central members.
Friday’s central committee meeting had given an ultimatum to Madhav Nepal’s side to return the signatures in favor of Deuba by 5 pm on Monday.
Oli said that even though Madhav tried to persuade the Nepal side till 3 pm today, it was not fruitful. A standing committee member said that unity with Madhav Nepal faction was impossible now.
